There are no posters hanging from office walls here showing majestic scenery and preaching inspirational phrases about success or passion. There isn’t a dress code either. Sometimes the refrigerator in the break room gets downright scary.
The building could use a coat of paint. We are blessed, however, with a growing family of employees who care about building bikes the right way. That means intensive design reviews and careful product development. It means rigorous quality control, innovative product specification, and close attention to every aspect of manufacture from tubing selection to wheel building to box design.
Santa Cruz bike ever sees the light of day, we ask the following questions: Will it be fun to ride? Will it still be fun to ride five years from now? Will it be reliable? Will it be easily serviceable? Will it be easy to repair, and will the parts be easy to find? Only when we can answer “yes” to those questions will we decide to build that bike.
We perform all our prototype fabrication in-house at Santa Cruz Bicycles, allowing us to rapidly develop and test new designs. A comprehensive test lab, filled with machinery designed to precisely destroy a bike in every imaginable way, lurks in its own corner behind the fabrication department. The information gleaned here is added to the real-world data collected from an extensive collaboration of riders, and is used to shape and refine every one of our bikes.
